Pink performed a soulful version of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” at the 2014 Oscars during a tribute to The Wizard of Oz, which came out 75 years ago.

Pink's 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' Performance Wows

When P!nk was first announced as an Oscar performer, it wasn’t clear what the Grammy-winning singer would be performing. Unlike Pharrell Williams and Idina Menzel, she hadn’t sung a song that was up for an Academy Award on Sunday.

“We are very excited to welcome Pink to the Oscar stage for the very first time,” the Oscars released in a statement late last month. “She is regarded as one of the greatest voices in pop music and one of the best performers of her generation, and we are thrilled to have her join us for a highly anticipated moment on the broadcast.”

Singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” P!nk blew away the Oscar audience. Though Pink is known for being a pop star, she started out pursing a career in R&B. For her Oscar performance, Pink let her powerhouse vocal chops shine, effortlessly charging through The Wizard of Oz song.

While Pink stood on the stage in a ruby-red sequined, long-sleeved, floor-length gown, scenes from the classic 1939 film starring Judy Garland played in the background.

Among those most impressed with Pink’s Oscar performance was her husband, motocross racer Carey Hart.
